“Wasteprints” explores the flows of municipal waste in southeast Michigan and exemplifies the use of visual representation to convey complex sets of data in a simple manner.  The study illustrates the nature and operation of ten massive landfills located in southeast Michigan, the most highly urbanized area of the state. The surrounding areas of these strategically located infrastructures capitalize on the high connectivity and cheap value of the land to attract piecemeal development of commercial and industrial uses.  Depicting the land use evolution of the areas surrounding these landfills, the study pays special attention to the consolidation and growth of residential areas trapped in close proximity of these infrastructures under unfavorable conditions.
